We work with approximately 140 children between the ages of 8-18 in the areas of Edinburgh; Pilton, Sighthill and Niddrie. These children are referred to us by schools, social workers, GPs, and other supporting bodies who feel they would benefit from CHV’s activities in order to improve their wellbeing, confidence and social skills.

Whilst every case is individual, there are several criteria which we ask schools and social workers to consider when referring the children:
- Children who are young carers for a family member
- Children who have been a victim/ exposed to abuse, neglect or domestic violence
- Children who are recently arrived refugees or immigrants
- Children who have experienced the bereavement of a loved one
- Children who have experienced parental seperation or an acrimonious parental separation
- Children with a family member suffering serious physical or mental illness
- Children who have a family member dealing with substance abuse
- Children from the most economically deprived areas
- Children with low self-esteem
- Children being raised by a single parent or carer
We take some children with additional needs on a case by case basis, but unfortunately our minibuses are unable to take children requiring wheel chairs. If you know a child who you think would benefit from being part of CHV, please get in touch at referrals.chv@eusa.ed.ac.uk
