History

We were founded in 1963 and have always been run by Edinburgh University students, along with some help from our non-student Drivers. CHV began when seven students organised a holiday camp for refugee children in post world war two Germany. The first camp was held in the Black Forest, and lasted for three weeks. This gave the 25 children involved a much needed escape, as well as improving their diet and wellbeing. In 1965, we shifted our focus to children living in Edinburgh, with our main focus being swimming sessions. As the charity grew, we have expanded the breadth of our activities.
