History

CHV was founded at Cambridge University in 1963 before coming up to the University of Edinburgh. CHV was set up by the Children’s Relief International with seven students who organised a holiday camp for refugee children in post world war two Germany. The first camp was held in the Black Forest, and lasted for three weeks. This gave the 25 children of refugee families involved a much needed escape. In 1965, the focus shifted to children living in Edinburgh, with the main focus being swimming sessions. CHV now runs a breadth of recreational activities that children across Edinburgh are able to access. For more information please see: https://chvarchive.net/
